Rabbi’s Message

The Yamim Nora’im (Days of Awe) give us an opportunity to reflect upon our lives and see ourselves as a work in progress.  In addition, we experience the collective memory of the Jewish people; we are a link that connects past and future generations of a nation rich in history and enduring wisdom.  These reflective moments inspire us to Teshuva (return to God).

As President of Zichron Yisroel Congregation of Associated Hebrew Schools, I welcome you and your family to our community. It is an honour for me to represent our Kehilla.

We’re an Orthodox congregation that welcomes Jews of all backgrounds and levels of observance. As an integral part of Associated Hebrew Schools, we bring the joy of our rich Jewish heritage to life. We celebrate our differences and similarities and thrive in an environment of warmth and support. Our children’s programs are vibrant, educational and fun.

My family and I knew we wanted to live in Thornhill, but we wanted to find a shul before deciding where to buy a house. We first visited Zichron Yisroel in 2006 and were immediately made to feel welcome. We loved the warm, friendly, "small community" feeling of the congregation. Most importantly, we were inspired by the Rabbi and Rebbetzin, Charles and Lori Grysman. The Grysmans set the tone of inclusiveness, respect and Torah study that make Zichron Yisroel the thriving shul community it is today. We moved to the neighbourhood in 2007 and we have not regretted it for a moment.

Since we joined Zichron Yisroel, the kehilla has become a spiritual home to our family. I personally welcome you to make it yours too.

If you’re in Thornhill, please join us for weekday, Shabbat and holiday services. Our religious leader, Rabbi Dr. Charles Grysman, is sure to inspire you.

Important Notice

We are grateful to everyone who contributes to our sense of community and Shabbat simcha by sponsoring a Kiddush. When you sponsor a kiddush, you are sponsoring even more than the food we enjoy. In essence, you are sponsoring Shabbat morning in the shul!

Request descriptions of the Kiddush packages by sending an email to ebergman@sympatico.ca.
